Industry Information
Both are part of an excellent tutorial that a corporate CBT
trainer has developed to help you find free company and
industry information on the web. When you click on a
website link, the tutorial will change to a frames interface
with specific instructions for navigating the website in the
left frame and the actual website in the right frame. This saves
you a lot of time trying to figure out how to search for info
on each site. To access additional sections of the tutorial,
click on the links in the left margin.
Hoover's Online
Good company, industry and competitor information on
thousands of companies. There is a subscription fee for
detailed reports, but there is a lot available free including
capsule report, news and analysis, and industry information
related to each company. Need to know company names to
retrieve info.

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
Filings & Forms (EDGAR)
Public companies with 500 investors and $10 million in
total assets must file their financial statements with the SEC.
Check company 10-K and 10-Q reports for more in-depth
information than public-relations-oriented annual reports.
The "Quick EDGAR Tutorial" is really quick (one page
explanation) and worth reading the first time around.
Vault Company Research
Vault is highly regarded for its coverage of companies and
industries, not just for the usual profiles, but for its "insider"
approach to getting information, advice, and peer reviews
of what it's like to work for 3,000 companies. You can search
by company name, industry, location, type of company
(public, private, govt, non-profit, subsidiary), number of
employees, and revenue. Also contains saavy career advice
articles and industry-specific job boards. Click on the "Industries" tab for insider articles on over 70 industries.
