Trent Nylander, a 2011 Wind Energy Technology graduate of Redstone College who is now a Site Technician

Why did you choose Redstone? I was an electrician apprentice and couldn't make a living because of the down economy and instability of the employment situation in the construction industry. I researched wind energy programs in the state and I chose Redstone College because I was impressed with the curriculum and knowledgeable staff.

How did your Redstone education and training prepare you for your current job? My Redstone Wind Energy Technology program is extremely relevant to what I do today. Even though I didn't have any experience in the wind energy technology field, after graduation from Redstone, I felt like I had been working as a wind tech for the last year and a half.

What were the most positive aspects of attending Redstone College? The instructors were able to relate their field experience to the classroom. I enjoyed the hands-on aspect of the wind energy program. Because of my past experience as an electrician, I could help and tutor other students with the electrical part of the course. Overall, there was great camaraderie in our Wind Energy Technology class with everyone helping each other out.

How would you describe your overall experience at Redstone College? Even though I was in my mid-forties when attending the Wind Energy Technology program at Redstone, I could relate to the other students in the class and keep in touch with some of them today. Everyone from the president of the college to receptionist was willing to assist in student success.

Would you recommend Redstone College to other students? Yes, Redstone College provides a positive atmosphere and environment but ultimately it is the responsibility of the student to take advantage of the resources available for success.
